When the Lord Calls Your Name

Blue Jay Listening

When the Lord calls your name,
Will you hear His sweet voice?
Will your heart lift His flame,
Will you sing and rejoice?

Or will sounds of this world
Serve to deafen your ear,
So by strange voices hurled,
His clear voice made unclear?

My dear friend, when in doubt,
Be not easily swayed;
Do not dare to go out
Until after you’ve prayed.

God will meet you in prayer
When His promise you claim,
So release every care
When the Lord calls your name.

The text of a recent Sunday morning message was Genesis 46:1-4…

And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac. And God spoke unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, “Jacob, Jacob.”

And he said, “Here am I.”

And he said, “I am God, the God of your father: fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of you a great nation: I will go down with you into Egypt; and I will also surely bring you up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon your eyes.”

God called Jacob’s name, and Jacob listened. As a result, God calmed Jacob’s fears, removed all doubts regarding what he ought to do, and He directed his path.

This poem was the product of a bit of quiet time that I had during the afternoon, as I meditated on the morning message.
