Sunshine on the Soapsuds

sink-full-of-dirty-dishes

Another day, another sink
That’s full of dirty dishes,
With dread I fill it to the brink
Then make some suds with swishes.

But as I wash I start to pray,
“Help me, Lord, to thankful be;
I’d hate to spoil this lovely day,
Knowing all You’ve given me.”

Then through my window sunshine enters in,
Turns soapsuds into diamonds, frown to grin!

A friend of mine told me that she had asked the Lord to help her be thankful for the dirty dishes, and just then He sent sunshine into her window which reflected off the soapsuds and cast sparkles all around her on the walls and ceiling. Right away her spirits were lifted, and she found much to be thankful for—even the dirty dishes.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

  1. Love this! I have a decorative plate that sits near my sink with the following rhyme printed on it: “Thank God for dirty dishes; they have a tale to tell: While others may go hungry, we are eating very well.” It puts it all in perspective just like your poem does! 💜💜
