Weekly Photo Challenge: Peek

Sherman Tank (5)

Imagine getting to peek inside the barrel of the gun on a Sherman tank! My son noticed the tank parked on the side of the road and wanted to stop for a photo shoot. He and I took turns with the camera, and when we were back on the road, I went through the previews to see what we had come up with. You can imagine my surprise and delight when I came to this stunning photo, for which all the credit goes to my 19-year-old son.

On another road trip with my daughter, we got to climb inside the Currituck Beach Lighthouse. Generally speaking, I’m afraid of heights, but I didn’t let my fear keep me from taking a peek over the railing at the checkerboard floor far below.

Do Tell, closer look 01

Here’s a slightly different take on the theme, as my daughter peeks around the corner of one of the many entrances to this rather remarkable work of art.

What will heaven be like? What will it be like to finally have a glorified body that is free from sin, free from pain, free from imperfection of any kind? What will it be like to be like Christ? We have a vague idea, for we have been given a sneak peek in the Word of God, but we will not know it all until we get there.

1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then [we will see] face to face; now I know in part, but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Jesus walked on this earth some two thousand years ago. He came in the form of man so that He could die as a man—although He never sinned. He paid the ultimate sacrifice for our sins so that we can be His brothers and live eternally in heaven with Him in the presence of the Father. Now He is preparing a place for all those who have accepted His wonderful gift of salvation.

John 14:1-3 Let not your heart be troubled: you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

The word translated mansions here is translated rooms in other places. I don’t know exactly what they look like, for I have only been given a peek through God’s Word. But I do know that I’ll feel right at home there, for it will be custom-built for me by the One who knows me better than anyone.

What about you? Are you heaven-bound? Is Jesus preparing a place for you?
