FMF: I Nothing Lack

tiny white bell-shaped flowers

The King of love my Shepherd is,
Whose goodness faileth never;
I nothing lack if I am His,
And He is mine forever.

Yet oftentimes I seek to find
My own resource for pleasure;
In doing so, lose peace of mind,
And, too, the things I treasure.

But when my eyes are fixed on Him,
My ears deaf to the chatter,
He fills my cup up to the brim
With things that truly matter.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Psalm 23:1

  1. Dear Angela — Henry Williams Baker’s stanza is powerful, and your stanzas pulls his firmly into the 21st century with emphatic relevance. Beautifully done. I’ll visit again from FNF #47. I have much to learn from you! Keep inspiring us all.

    • Just yesterday I was challenged to filter everything I do through the statement, “For this I was born.” In other words, I should evaluate all the things that take up my precious time. Are they things that please only me, or do they have lasting value? It is only that which has lasting value of which we can truly say, “For this I was born.” Your comment has helped to solidify in my mind that when it comes to writing, and perhaps to this blog in particular… for this I was born. Thank you. You’ll never know how much your words of encouragement meant to me. They touched me deeply.
