FMF: Routine

Today’s Five-Minute-Friday topic is ROUTINE.

START.

Our lives are too busy. I’m glad to know that I am not alone in this—or am I glad? Is it really any comfort to know that too many of us are Marthas and not enough of us are Marys? How do we find balance? How do we learn to live a Mary life in a Martha world?

In my Quiet Time I have been studying how to wait on God (Waiting on God by Andrew Murray—excellent book!). In fact, I’m going through the study for the second time because the first time through only shook me up and grabbed my attention. Now the truths of what it means to wait on God are finally starting to sink in. My skin is thick, so it takes a lot of exposure….

Yesterday I sat down and made a game plan. To be honest, I was very near to putting both of my blogs to rest for the next 30 days. You see, I am trying to prepare for the biggest art show I’ve ever been in, and my first juried show at that. But I love writing as much as I love painting! And once I start writing of a morning, it’s hard to stop. And next thing I know, the day is gone, and I haven’t spent a minute in the studio.

So yesterday I created a calendar. On this calendar I planned a day of the week to focus on blogging, a day for housework, a day for office/administration (taxes still aren’t finished), three days for studio, and a day for worship and rest. I will still spend time as needed with my daughter in home school, and I will still have my Quiet Time with the Lord each morning, for there I find the needed peace and strength for the day. But when I get out the laptop, I will unplug it and operate off the battery. And when the battery is low, that will be my cue to move on to the next thing. This is my new routine. It may mean less of me in every area, but in every area my attention will be prioritized, focused and productive. At least that’s the goal….

Plan your day, then work your plan;
Routine changes could to can.

STOP.

  1. I think it’s super important to have a good routine and to take the necessary time away from technology like you said! I’m very interested on learning more of what a “Martha” is!
